How to work out how much flooring to buy
The area is the length times the width of each room. To that area you add a margin for cuts and waste: 5 % if the boards run straight, 10 % on the diagonal and 15 % in a herringbone pattern. Then you divide by the m² in each box, which is printed on the packaging, and round up.
The underlay is calculated with 10 % extra for overlaps, and the skirting with the perimeter of the rooms minus about 80 cm per door. These are approximate quantities: at the visit we measure exactly.
