Floating Floor for Underfloor Heating: What to Know Before Installing
Not every floating floor is compatible with underfloor heating. We explain what to check before buying, how it should be installed correctly, and how to switch on the heating for the first time without damaging the floor.

Checking compatibility before buying
Only flooring explicitly certified by the manufacturer for underfloor heating, with a known thermal resistance value, should be installed over a heated subfloor.
Correct installation
An underlay with low thermal resistance and correctly sized expansion joints are essential so the heat transfers well and the wood can move safely.
Turning on the heating for the first time
The heating should be raised gradually over several days rather than switched to full power immediately, giving the wood time to adjust without cracking or gapping.
