Cheap Floating Floor: What to Check Before Buying So It Does Not End Up Expensive

A cheap floating floor can be a good buy or an expensive mistake. AC3 or AC4 class, thickness, locking system, underlay and installation: what really changes the final price.

Professional floating floor, parquet, vinyl and laminate flooring services in Burgos: installation, sanding and varnishing, repair, skirting boards and flooring for staircases and underfloor heating, with careful preparation, material acclimatisation and a written quote.

What makes a floating floor cheap

Price depends mainly on the use class, thickness, quality of the decorative layer and locking system. The most affordable options are usually 7 or 8 mm laminates in AC3 or AC4. AC3 suits moderate domestic use, such as bedrooms or rooms with little traffic; AC4 is the usual choice for most homes.

Where not to save

The subfloor and the underlay. A floating floor over an uneven subfloor or without a good underlay ends up creaking, however expensive it is. Levelling properly costs less than replacing the floor in two years.

Approximate cost

As a market guide, laminate floating floor in the economic or mid range usually runs between 18 and 34 euros per m² with material and installation (more for engineered wood), depending on the class chosen, the condition of the subfloor and the finishing.
