Indoor laminate and floating floor are not made for the elements. Why they fail and which outdoor flooring to choose for terraces, porches and gardens.

Why indoor floors do not work outside

Moisture: rain and dew get in through the joints and the fibre core swells. Frost and sun then do the rest of the damage.

What to use outdoors

Composite (WPC) decking needs hardly any maintenance, does not splinter and resists moisture and frost. It is the most convenient option. It is laid on a ventilated joist structure with a slope to drain water, with boards fixed using stainless-steel clips or screws.

Covered porches and galleries

Under cover, with protection from direct rain, SPC vinyl flooring, which is waterproof, can be considered. Even so, if the area gets wet or freezes, a specific outdoor solution is better.
