The three enemies of the floor
Claws scratch the finish, accidents leave moisture in the wood, and water from bowls or rainy walks seeps into the joints. Keep these three under control and the floor stays in good shape.
Which material resists best
SPC vinyl flooring is the most resistant: it is waterproof, does not scratch easily and copes well with accidents. An AC5 laminate with good abrasion resistance is another good mid-price option. Parquet and engineered wood can also work, with more care.
How to protect the floor
Keep nails trimmed, put rugs in walkways and resting areas, and use a doormat at the entrance to catch water and mud. Clean accidents straight away and never leave liquid on the wood. Do not use steam, bleach or harsh cleaners, which damage the varnish.
