Installing Laminate Flooring: Step-by-Step Guide, Tools and Common Mistakes

How laminate flooring is installed: subfloor preparation, insulating underlay, cutting with a guillotine, expansion joints and skirting boards. And why it is not always suitable for kitchens.

Professional floating floor, parquet, vinyl and laminate flooring services in Burgos: installation, sanding and varnishing, repair, skirting boards and flooring for staircases and underfloor heating, with careful preparation, material acclimatisation and a written quote.

Tools and materials

A guillotine or jigsaw for the cuts, the insulating underlay, spacers for the expansion gap and the skirting boards or profiles to finish the job.

Step by step

Acclimatise the material for a few days inside the home, in its packaging. Check and level the subfloor, lay the underlay and click the boards together, leaving an expansion gap at the walls.

Common mistakes and kitchens

A badly levelled subfloor ends in creaks and open joints. In kitchens and bathrooms use a water-resistant laminate or, better, SPC vinyl flooring: a standard laminate can swell if it gets wet repeatedly.
